…the founders of CraftLaunch.

Austin, Texas is mainly known for three things: live music, barbecue, and the thousands of bats that fly out from under the Congress Street bridge every night. What people may not know is that it also boasts a vibrant crafting community.

While many of the artists in town sell their creations on Etsy, they each also have their own brand and story to tell. That’s why we created CraftLaunch–to help Etsy sellers express themselves online by creating beautiful websites that complement their stores.

CraftLaunch lets sellers create their own unique websites, which then automatically pull in their Etsy listings so that they don’t have to manage their inventory in two places.  It’s a way to take advantage of Etsy’s great technology and marketplace while still maintaining your own individual style and brand!

We think that Etsy is the best platform for selling your handmade goods. There are lots of ways to sell online, but none of them approach Etsy in terms of their community and their reach (1.53 billion page views in December!). It’s also pretty inexpensive to get started. So you have lots of potential traffic, and access to advice and resources from the Etsy teams and the community at large. Those low barriers to entry can also make it hard for an individual shop to get noticed, so having your own website (like to compliment your shop makes a lot of sense–especially if you’re going to be doing any sort of marketing or if you want to differentiate yourself from other Etsy sellers.

CraftLaunch helps you build a stronger relationship with your customers, so that they can say they bought something from you, instead of just saying “I bought it on Etsy.” We focus exclusively on Etsy sellers and work really hard to make sure that their standalone websites integrate seamlessly with their Etsy shops.

Etsy sellers who want their own websites can go to and sign up for an account. It only takes a minute, and by the time they’re done, they will already have a great-looking home page and a “shop” page with all of their Etsy items on it. From there they can take advantage of their easy-to-use Control Panel to customize their site and make it their own–choosing their color palette, adding photos, and creating new pages for their bio, retail locations, custom orders, and more!

Customers add items to their cart on the new website, and when they’re ready to check out, they are taken back to to finish their purchase. We never charge listing or transaction fees, and buyers don’t need a CraftLaunch account to shop. What’s great is that any changes that happen in your Etsy shop–like when an item is sold, added or changed–will be auto-magically reflected in your new site, so you don’t have to update it manually.

We also make it easy to link up to social media like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest so that shoppers can learn more about you and spread the word about the products they find. We have great tools to help our sellers build their sites, and we’re always adding more.

Let’s Take Our Kids Around the World with Playful Learning

playfultour_badgesI’ve been working with Mariah of Playful Learning to create an experience for children that inspires their love of exploration and discovery while teaching them to be compassionate global citizens. Together we connected with over 20 wonderful bloggers from around the world who signed up to share a look at play in their corner of the world and help spread the word about the new Playful Learning Ecademy. I got to design graphics, a free printable passport and some fun ways for children to learn about the power of online communities!

I wrote how much the girls and I loved The Power of Put-Ups and the way it changed our family dynamic a couple months ago so was thrilled when Mariah recently decided that every family in the world should have access to the Power of Put-Ups eLesson, and is offering it to everyone free of charge! By using the discount code WORLDPEACE during the registration process you will receive a 100% discount.

Hop on over to Playful Learning, download your free Playful Passport then visit each of the stops during August to meet these inspiring families, follow the #PlayfulTour fun on Twitter + Instagram,  and enter to win Playful Learning scholarships. ilaWhere do you live? Lunenburg, Nova Scotia

What season is it there now? Summer!

What is your favourite way to play?

Sela: Wearing my unicorn suit all day and at the Unicorn Academy (she means the playground at this building) also playing on the beach, I like swimming in the water.

Ila: Making my own costumes with mom and playing dress up-this is my cave girl outfit I sewed all by my self (no help from mom!). Also rollerblading, frisbee at the beach with dad, and sleepovers with friends.

What do you like most about learning with friends?

Sela: When my friends are sad I hug them and sing-like when CC cried at daycare I sang her “my love, to my sweet, my heart is wide so high up in the world” and she laughed.

Ila: You are surrounded by people who are on your side and can help you with the answers if you have questions.

Can you tell us something special or different about where you live or games you play?

Sela: There are lots of beaches like Sand Dollar Beach, Hirtle’s Beach, Kingsburg Beach-lots of beaches!

Ila: Our town looks like a fairy tale! All the houses are old and colourful. The Bluenose II is a special boat that was built in Lunenburg and my school is named after it. Lots of movies get made in our town and sometimes they film right outside of our house and we get to watch. I want to be in a movie someday!

playLeft-right: Play time at Kingsburg Beach, hanging out at the Lunenburg (or Unicorn) Academy, silly sisters get ready for the pool, an empty Sand Dollar Beach to romp on.  See more of our adventures this summer right here.

Head on over to Playful Learning to find out how you can share your own play around the world story or pictures and win a scholarship to all their wonderful lessons!

The Poppy Barley Story: Traditional Craft Meets Modern Style

PoppyBarley Made to Measure Footwear, Oh My! Handmade

Last time we saw you, we were chatting CREATIVEstyle and Poppy Barley’s made to measure boots  (did you see OMHG editor Jessika rocking The Everyday City Boot in Kaki?).

Today, we want the Oh My! Handmade Goodness community to get a behind-the-scenes look at Poppy Barley’s custom ballet flats—from initial sketches, to production at our studios in Mexico, and onto your one-of-a-kind feet.

PoppyBarley Made to Measure Footwear, Oh My! Handmade

There is nothing more custom than the human body. Yet today, footwear is mass-manufactured using only one measurement: foot length. And so, as women, we usually settle for boots and shoes that fit poorly. In fact, most of us don’t even know what a properly fitting shoe should feel like. In February 2012, Poppy Barley set out to change this (learn about the meaning behind our name here. Our concept is the first of its kind in North America: you customize your design and measure yourself in less than 10 minutes, and we deliver handcrafted, perfectly fitted boots.

Last fall, we launched online with a small collection of classic, made to measure boots  for wide calves, boots for narrow calves, boots for wide feet, boots for different-sized feet, boots for long legs, boots for short legs—you name it. And, due to popular demand, quickly followed up with a Spring/Summer collection of custom ballet flats.
