About the Artist:
Hi I’m Isa Maria, graphic designer, illustrator and owner of Noisette, a design studio and shop specializing in illustrations for children. I’m mum to two little ones, Joseph aged 2 and Lily Maria, 3 months. I juggle being a stay at home mum with running my design business which means I usually spend my days playing with my kids, painting, or digging up worms and my evenings trying to squeeze a full working day into a few hours.
I recently launched my shop selling happy paper goods for children. I wanted to reconnect children with paper and go back to basics with paper goods young children would really love. My first collection is Happy Woodland, inspired by the nature walks I take with my kids and the little creatures we meet along the way. Focusing on modern simplicity the collection encompasses art prints, personalized stationery, stickers and bookplates.
I’m inspired by my love of Japanese Kawaii especially my design hero Shinzi Katoh. I also love the clean lines and colours of Scandinavian design and children’s fashion from Europe and Japan. My biggest inspiration comes from my children. They are such an important part of my business and just by being with them and experiencing their laughter and imagination inspires me to create. I love that my son in particular, without knowing it has had a hand in inspiring my debut collection just by being his inquisitive and happy two year old self.
At the moment I‘m concentrating on paper goods but I feel my illustrations are versatile and can be used on many things from children’s homewares to clothing and toys. When my children are older I would love to exhibit at a trade show and launch Noisette as a children’s lifestyle brand. In the near future though I have embroidery patterns, posters and more characters aimed at boys waiting to be released. I don’t think there is enough art for boys and who doesn’t love a digger with a smiley face?
