A marathon? Yep, that’s 26.2 miles (or 42 kms for me here in Canada)
Might sound crazy, but I am going to run one. A big one. The New York City Marathon to be exact – on November 4, 2012. The race is paid for, apartment rented in Brooklyn, flight purchased. Now all that’s left to do is train and RUN! If you have never been involved in a running community, it is a great support network – in many ways, much like the handmade community, I think. You also may, or may not, know that many marathoners raise money and run for charity (an amazing way to honour charities), but for MY marathon, I wanted to think a little bit outside the box, and do something the supports the WONDERFUL community of hand makers that I have connected with through oh my! handmade goodness…..and beyond! A passion in my world recently has been putting extra effort and thought into all of my gift purchases – supporting local entrepreneurs and small business in my community, and buying handmade whenever possible, and I wanted to do something to create some BUZZ and to raise awareness around supporting HANDMADE BUSINESS!
Hence, the idea of the Handmade Marathon was born!
The Handmade Marathon will take place from October 1 – 26, 2012. Twenty-six days in total, each day representing a marathon mile. Each day The Petit Cadeau Blog will feature a handmade shop/product line showcasing the talents and beautiful products of artisans and craftspeople (YOU!). Readers + the handmade community will be encouraged to comment, cheer for and most importantly, support the businesses featured each day.
I would like to invite each and every one of you to submit your handmade business to the Handmade Marathon and, to follow along with us each day of the marathon – discovering new handmade business and supporting the ones that you fall in love with! There will be lot’s of hype leading up to the marathon – maybe even a prize for the most involved fan!
So what are you waiting for? Lace up your sneakers, head on over to The Petit Cadeau Blog for all of the submission criteria, and submit your business to the Handmade Marathon – I’ll see you at the finish line! Be sure to follow The Petit Cadeau Blog on Twitter , Facebook or Google+ for all of the updates and tools to be the ultimate handmade marathon fan!
