In 2013, if you’re not using Facebook or Twitter to make promotions of your Etsy store, you’re probably missing a huge opportunity. In fact, many shops are already doing it. Thousands of online shops are using Facebook because it drives more sales and sometimes it also doubles them. Statistics show the money invested in Facebook and Twitter marketing in 2012, in U.S alone, is more than $2.4 billion! You are in luck! I’m going to share a tutorial specifically designed for shops on Etsy, Shopify, StoreEnvy, Ebay and similar services to help you start getting new customers from Facebook and Twitter.
Increase the number of followers
The first step is increasing the number of people who follow your shop’s Facebook page and your shop’s Twitter account. To do this, you have to share a lot of interesting news about your market. For instance, if you’re selling clothes for kids, you have to share news and tips about kids. If you’re selling earrings, you have to share news and articles about the fashion world. Celebrities wearing earrings similar to the ones you’re selling would be an example. If you’re selling wedding accessories, you have to talk about weddings in general. You could give a tutorial about how to create beautiful invitations, or how to choose the colors of the flowers. By showing these different posts, people who already follow your page will “Like, Comment or Share” the news that they find interesting. Friends who can follow your page too will then see it. If someone do one of this actions, the news will be seen by his friends and so, some of them will start to follow your page too.
To find the interesting news you have to look for the best ones on Google or on your favorite blogs. It’s a long process that requires about 10 hours weekly, but at the end of this post I’ll give you advice to make it easier and faster.
Talk about your products
Of course you need to talk about your products, but be aware. You should not promote too much about your products, as some of your followers will perceive it as spam. The rule of thumb is share 1 promoted product for every 4 interesting news subject (the maximum acceptable is 1 promoted product for every 2 news subjects). Just share a great looking photo of the product with a short description and the link to buy the product on your store. Please, don’t dismiss the link to your shop or else people will not be able to buy anything.
Be consistent
You should publish 4 to 5 messages every day. You need to do it every day because if you continue for a few weeks the Facebook algorithm will help to decide which stories appear in each user’s newsfeed (click here to understand how it works). To schedule your messages for different days you could use one of the many social media management suites available, like Hootsuite.
Publish the messages in the right moment of the day
The people who follow your shop’s Facebook page or your Twitter account are not always connected. So understanding when is the best moment to schedule your messages can really increase your sales. You can use Tweroid to help figure out when is the best time of day for posting.
How can I make Facebook and Twitter marketing easy and fast?
The real problem is that tools out there are designed for experts of Facebook and Twitter marketing, not for online shop owners. So, you need some training and a lot of time. But, I have worked on a solution that makes it really easy to select the products to promote, to get the best news curated for you and to decide what are the best moments to publish your messages. Fanchimp allows any online shop owner to get new customers from Facebook and Twitter without requiring you to learn anything new and takes about 10 minutes a week.
You have a free trial to understand if it works for your shop, so you can easily just give it a try.
