Handmade Holiday Shop: Freshie & Zero

Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Beth “Freshie” Lawrence was always crafting from a very early age; she began making and selling jewelry when she was just 10 years old! Upon receiving a Studio Art degree from Belmont University in 2000, she worked in art and craft galleries in Atlanta and Nashville but was always drawing, painting, or making jewelry on the side. In 2006, Freshie decided to make jewelry her full time career, and she feels lucky every day to do something she is so passionate about.

Mainly drawing inspiration from geometry, Freshie makes each piece with “love and a hammer”, using sterling silver and gold-filled wire to create jewelry that is simple and delicately feminine. She still lives in Nashville with her husband and their two young children, plus Zero, her Jack Russell Terrier.

Tucked away in her downtown Nashville studio, Freshie creates jewelry while Zero sleeps nearby. She begins each piece by manipulating wire into a two-dimensional outline. The shape is then hammered, resulting in her signature delicate yet rough style. A lot has changed since starting her business in 2006. She married a man willing to sell jewelry under a rainy craft tent with her, and they have two young children. Freshie travels extensively to promote her jewelry, but Zero stays in Nashville dreaming of squirrels and peanut butter.

Care/Carry/Cure an essay from ‘You Care Too Much’

In June of 2016 I supported my love Chris as we dealt with the death of both his parents and a co-worker over a three week period. This essay written the summer of those deaths is my attempt to make sense of grief and the struggle to carry all that I care for. Originally published […]
