Get Crafty With Your Cleaning! DIY Craft Storage Ideas

Idea: Down and Out Chic

With each year that passes by my collection of arts and crafts supplies seems to grow all on its own. Add in my also expanding collection of supplies that I use for InkSpot Workshop and I’m forever on a quest it seems to get all of these loose items situated into one handy place, without looking too cluttered here in my workshop.

I was happy that Jessika wanted us to talk about spring cleaning so I thought I’d share a recent popular post from my blog on this topic. Retailers like The Container Store and Organize.com are a few of my favorite places to go and hide for a few hours. It’s fun to walk up and down the idles, or browse the categories online and stretch my imagination for item uses beyond what they are projected to be.

I did a little Googling and found some cute and unique ways to store your do-dads with everyday, run of the mill items. Have you discovered a unique storage use for an everyday item? Please post a comment here and tell us all about it:)

This last idea I came up with all myself! While shopping at Ikea, I spotted this Table Top Paperholder and had a light bulb moment! How great would this be to hold my gorgeous collection of baker’s twine from The Twinery? Voilla, there you have it! Just need to buy a few more as my twine collection also is multiplying at the pace of little bunnies.

I also just discovered this great site for organizing called Simplify 101 and subscribe to their newsletter and get tips sent to my inbox on a regular basis. Check them out!

These are great ideas, Stacy! I’m always looking for ideas to get more organized…All my supplies are hidden away from view. It’d be great to try to make everything more within reach!

Thanks so much for all these great ideas Stacy. I’ve been looking for some fun crafty organizing options for my new crafting space. I can’t wait to decide on what I want & get started!

  5. I totally agree with everyone’s comments – what a post, Stacy – love it! And great photography and layout.

Our loo roll holder is so being pinched from the bathroom…..

Where’s a pen when you need one? I have a mug tree on my desk, and each mug is filled with pencils, pens, rulers, etc. so I can grab them easily – stops pens rolling all over the place and getting lost.

Thanks again Stacy – am inspired to get more organised! Lucy x

This is awesome! I do similar things – I have an old embellished picnic basket that I used to use for yarn, but now holds my stash of bias tape and other seam finishes. I use a decorative box with a hinged lid for my thread trimmings while I sew, so I can close it up (and keep all the loose bits out of my projects). I have an old box that is subdivided into squares, that was for holding lipstick, that is fantastic for holding my marking pens/pencils, scissors, sliding seam allowance ruler, etc. And probably my favorite – a small artists mannequin that I use to hold my wrist pin cushion when I am not using it 😀

Love the twine organizer! I wouldn’t have room for two…would there be room for another row on the existing rack by drilling another set of holes and buying a dowel rod?

Stacy! Love all your ideas! I already had the Ikea paperholder in our boys playroom so I snagged it and now holds my gorgeous twine! Im dying to do something like the vintage suitcase but can’t find a link on how??? Thx. D

awesome ideas! anyone know where I can find the standing shoe cubby or if that is just an additional shelf on top? it looks perfect for redoing my printer stand and messy paper cabinet.

Love the peg board but where did you get the hooks? My lovely husband has made me a board but I can’t get the hooks anywhere. Can you help? Thanks.
