Towel Day Giveaway of Businessy Goodness!

Friday, May 25, 2012 by Jessika Hepburn

Towel Day, Douglas Adams, Guide to Businessy Goodness

Towel Day, the day Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy fans everywhere take to the streets (& pubs) with towels in hand, to pay tribute to the late Douglas Adams. Wondering what on Earth is with the towels?

…a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: non-hitch hiker) discovers that a hitch hiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitch hiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitch hiker might accidentally have “lost”. What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

—Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

The  idea behind the Guide to Businessy Goodness is for it to be your creative biz towel-no matter what corner of the galaxy you might wander off into, the Guide has your back, and the resources to help you win through. It is also a celebration of Douglas Adams in a context we don’t usually see him; a creative visionary whose silliness masked a deep understanding of the human condition. We can either laugh or cry at the bizarre twists of fate life takes us on-Douglas always laughed, and made us laugh with him. The businessy world could use more silliness and general merriment. Just because we’re laughing doesn’t mean we’re not learning, preparing for intergalactic take off, or changing the future of business. We’re doing all that AND having fun. So on this day of supreme silly I wanted to do something awesome to promote our Guide!

Towel Day, Douglas Adams, Guide to Businessy Goodness

Purchase a copy of the Guide to Businessy Goodness at full price ($20 or $24.42 if you are feeling funny) between now and 4:42pm on May 29th & be entered to win a package of real life businessy goodness! I ordered postcards, luxe business cards, and stickers from the folks at Moo featuring the prints from the Guide illustrating Douglas Adams quotes. I want to send a fancified envelope (with some Omiyage washi tape-I put that $*%# on everything!) of businessy Adamsian inspiration to 8 of you…but wait! There’s more! I will also beam you aboard the mothership and send you a handwritten letter answering one big businessy goodness question. Just enter your question in the notes to seller when you check out through Paypal, I’ll choose 8 random winners on May 30th, and announce the winners by email and at the bottom of this post. This giveaway is open internationally and your pretty packages will be on their way by the first week of June.
