The Design By Thoughts story
I [Tiffany] was born with a computer – seriously. If it computed and calculated, and played video games – I had it growing up! My mom [Yolanda] was always more creative with her hands, she would sew and crochet for me and create all kinds of cool handmade “love” – and cook…LOVE mom’s cooking and I think that is the best handmade item ever created. A good meal!
My career became technology, from IT support to management, but in later years I decided to use my love of technology in a creative way and started designing websites. I started my own business in 2007, quitting my job in 2009 to run it full time. Never looking back ever since – I’m glued to my bunny slippers and walking down the hall to my super office (I’m surrounded by technology and cool machines that compute and calculate).
My mom worked in a law firm for the past 25+ years, and when they closed their doors in 2010 it afforded her the chance to grow her own business of selling crafty cool items in her shop Thoughts and fabric with her shop Fabricity. That same year, we got together to bring my talents and her business sense and Designs by Thoughts was born.
I have worked on/off with my mom since out of high school (I worked at the same law firm for many years) so becoming partners was quite natural for us. Best friends couldn’t even explain how close we are, we have the same sense of style and it shows in our work.
What does DBT do differently?
We thrive on individuality, and found a need for small businesses to be able to stand out from the crowd. We blended my mom’s cool crafty shapes from Thoughts with my graphic designs and decided to offer unique shaped business cards. We were one of the first on Etsy to offer this, any shape your heart can imagine we can design, and we have had lots of fun ideas from teacups, sewing machines, hair combs, and vintage keys to clouds, cars and flowers.
What is the Giveaway?
