On Saturday, September 27, OMHG is teaming up with the local Etsy community & Fatema of Silver Lily Jewellery to host the first-ever Made in Canada event in Halifax at the Halifax Forum from 10-3pm! 23 locations across Canada are hosting a one-day marketplace, bringing together local Etsy sellers and communities in celebration of our country’s maker movement. Our event will feature 50+ Etsy sellers from Halifax, showcasing their handmade and vintage goods along with a Crafty Kids area, community sponsors like our friends the Lunenburg Makery, Patch Halifax, and Inkwell Boutique + food vendors & entertainment. Stop by to shop local favourites like Thief & Bandit, Angela Grace Jewellery, Double Dare Print Studio, The Quarrelsome Yeti, Sewn by Blythe, Poison Pear and other awesome makers!
Made in Canada is the newest addition to Etsy’s ongoing offline initiatives, like our recent Etsy Road Trip! Aiming to connect sellers to their community of fellow makers and local shoppers, as well as facilitate creative collaborations, Made in Canada will be representing Canadian makers to a larger audience. In addition to extensive marketing and public relations support, Etsy provided a two-day “boot camp” training session for all team captains last spring in Toronto; supplied a PR tool kit on how to locally promote the event; and tips on how to secure a venue and attract local sellers to name a few. The September 27 cross-country marketplace will demonstrate the breadth of maker culture and growing entrepreneurship across Canada. Each of these markets from Charlottetown to Nanaimo to Gatineau, has been organized by an independent Etsy community leader, and reflects the individual culture and style of his or her own community. OMHG agreed to help organize and present this event to support local makers and be part of growing the maker movement in Canada!
